Air Tutors partnered with Mathematica, a public policy research firm, to evaluate Air Tutors’ high dosage tutoring program in the 2020-2021 school year with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Interim results suggest that students who participated in Air Tutors achieved significantly higher growth on i-Ready than the national average. Students who participated in at least 15 sessions grew an average of 6.7 percentile points on i-Ready from the winter to spring i-Ready administrations relative to the national average

Comparing the i-Ready growth of Air Tutors students to the national average growth provides early evidence on the effectiveness of Air Tutors tutoring. It is likely that Air Tutors students differ from students nationwide in ways that could also contribute to differences in growth, independent of the effect of tutoring. To help address this concern, each Air Tutors student was compared only to students nationwide who had the same i-Ready score prior to the start of the program 2021.
