B.S. Biology University of Texas
Fatima Arif
Growing up in both the United States and Pakistan, I have a unique educational background. I studied in 9 different schools and from 3 different education systems- American, Cambridge, and Pakistani Education. Throughout my diverse learning process, I was exposed to many types of students, teachers, and learning styles. I began tutoring when I was a freshman in high school and had a small tutoring business throughout those years. I taught all subjects, from Math, English, Literature, Sciences, Urdu, and Religion. That is where my passion for teaching emerged. After moving back to Texas for my B.S. in Biology, I continued to work at Independent School Districts and ESL programs because I could not go a day without teaching children, inspiring them, and watching them grow into the best versions of themselves. I love making them see the wonders of the miraculous human body. I especially love helping them unravel the jumbled mix of thoughts in their heads, whether it is through a creative essay or a long word problem. Lastly, being the eldest of five, I feel like teaching was always the inevitable path my life would take, and it did! I couldn’t be happier doing what I love doing. I also love reading, writing, cooking from scratch, and researching ways to live a healthier life.
B.S.E. Geneva College | M.Div Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary
Benjamin Roberts
I grew up loving the beauty and simplicity of math, and now I enjoy helping other people make sense of it. I’ve spend the last 9 years teaching, most recently teaching middle school math and science. I’ve taught all types and sorts of people, so I’m sure I’ll be able to help you. When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me doing a puzzle with my daughter, watching Chinese dramas with my wife, or reading a book.
B.A. Political Science UC R
Ivany Gonzalez
I was born in Los Angeles, CA, and I am from a low-income background. I have experienced the disadvantages present from people with the same background as me. For this reason, I decided to enter the education field, so that I can show students that they can surpass any boundaries that come their way. I have been working with students in all different grade levels, so I know what the learning expectations are as well as what students tend to have the most difficulties in. I believe in all my students and I know that each one has potential to do great things. I not only teach in order to help students in their educational journey, but I also guide students in seeing the potential within themselves so that they can be the best possible version of themselves. Apart from teaching, I also enjoy music, art, and dogs. I am also a seamstress and enjoy making my own clothes.
B.S. Biopsychology UC Santa Barbara
Lisette Collins
Hello everyone, my name is Lisette and I am from Los Angeles! I completed my undergraduate education at UC Santa Barbara and now I am getting ready to begin medical school this fall! I thoroughly enjoy serving as a mentor as it is extremely satisfying to watch students not only improve academically but also build their overall confidence. Growing up, I did not have a role model or mentor so it is very important to me to give back to those who might be in a similar position. As a tutor, my goal is to adapt to my students’ learning style and create a positive learning environment where they are not afraid to make mistakes and ask questions! Outside of my passion for academia, I enjoy spending time outdoors either at the beach or hiking with friends.
B.A. Chemistry (Minor: Math) Willamette University
Liz Simonovich
I teach because I recognize that not all students understand material the same way and I want to help them learn and excel to the best of their ability. I have multiple years of tutoring experience in both one-on-one and group settings, along with working with a variety of students with different learning styles. My teaching style revolves around the student and what they need to learn and understand. I have the patience and interest in making students succeed, and I know that I can help share a piece of the world with them through my classroom. As a Bay Area native, I like spending time in the sun and swimming in lakes. Outside of tutoring, I bake for my friends and neighbors, hang out with my cats, and go on walks around the neighborhood.

B.A. Mathematics Smith College | B.A. Logic Smith College
Karina Soto
I live (and grew up) in Bell, California. I have always been interested in mathematics. I have always liked to help others (mostly my classmates) understand math, and to show them that although math can be challenging and tricky, it is not impossible. As an undergraduate, I began working as a tutor at my college. I helped fellow peers in Calculus 1,2,3, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Math. I also worked as a Math grader, assisting Discrete Math and Probability professors. In addition to math, I am also very interested in logic. In college, I studied classical and non-classical logic. Towards the end of my college career, I delved into the philosophy of mathematics.
During my spare time you can find me playing my flute or piccolo, reading Stephen King, watching horror movies, or learning mathematics.
B.A. Mathematics CSU Los Angeles | Teaching Credential CSU Los Angeles
Ignacio De Luna
I love helping students understand the concepts of mathematics and why we have math. I’ve been teaching mathematics in the classroom for the past six years, from Pre Algebra to Calculus. My goal is to help students have an open mindset (rather than a fixed mindset) and to be persistent. Teaching students with various learning abilities involves creativity, time and a desire to understand how a student learns best. The biggest challenge is to help students realize that mistakes are a part of learning mathematics. Students will learn more from mistakes in order to help their brain grow and expand, so I encourage students when they make mistakes. I believe everyone can learn math and my passion is to give students the opportunity to learn by having them think. I want my students to think like a mathematician. Math is figuring out how the puzzles come together and that’s when the fun begins. I live in Southern California and I love exploring our beautiful history.
B.A. English and Classical Civilization Wellesley College | M.F.A. Creative Fiction Writing Sarah Lawrence College
Rebecca Singer
I’ve worked in the teaching field for nearly 10 years with a focus in writing and literature. I’m an experienced, upbeat, adaptable, and engaging tutor. B.A. Education (Magna Cum Laude) University of Louisiana
Ryan Goggans
My first experience with teaching occurred when I was five years old and tried to teach a friend in my daycare how to read. I then started tutoring my peers throughout high school, graduated college with a degree in education, and began an exciting career as a teacher. I have five years experience as a classroom teacher and fourteen years experience as a private tutor. During my years of teaching in the classroom, I was twice nominated for Teacher of the Year. Teaching others is truly in my blood, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life! It is my philosophy that in any tutor-student interaction, a comfortable, trusting relationship is imperative, and the entire student should be addressed. Therefore, adjustments to work and study habits as well as self-esteem and attitudes about learning are interwoven throughout each of my tutoring sessions. As a strong advocate for student empowerment, I believe that students are very in tune with their strengths, weaknesses, and needs, and I therefore treat them as partners throughout the tutoring process. My favorite quote is, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge” by Albert Einstein; after all, what good is imparting knowledge without sprinkling in some joy and excitement to go along with it?
Along with a passion for teaching, I also enjoy being out in nature as much as possible and am unashamedly a huge pun fanatic – the cornier the joke, the better. I am looking forward to working with you towards a successful school career and a bright future!
B.A. English Education CSU Dominguez Hills | Single Subject Teaching Credential - English CSU Fullerton
Brandon Baker
I’ve been teaching and tutoring English across a variety of platforms for the last four years, from AVID tutoring at junior high schools to teaching high school English at multiple schools in southern California. I’ve also spent a great deal of time teaching and tutoring students in AP and SAT/ACT prep, and have worked as a Supplemental Instructor at Cal State Dominguez Hills, aiding incoming college freshman with English so that they can rapidly reach University-level coursework.
Teaching is an absolute passion for me, and elevating students to positions of success in both reading and writing – as well as in general life skills – is one of the most rewarding things imaginable. Throughout the work I’ve done, I’ve had the luxury of working with many underprivileged youth, at-risk students, and English language learners, and these experiences have shown me how important it is to tailor every lesson to each individual student’s needs. I love bringing in a student’s passion and using that to fuel engagement.
When I’m not teaching, I love creative writing and artistic outlets. I’ll often be crafting stories, painting miniatures, or engaging in collaborative storytelling.

Ethan Spiezer
I was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois. I am happily married, and my wife and I have two wonderful sons. I have a decade of experience teaching various subjects at the elementary and middle school level as a special education teacher. I have been tutoring students for the past 5 years. I put enthusiasm, fun, and, most importantly, humor into every lesson I deliver. I believe the key to successful learning lies in the ability for an instructor and student to build a strong rapport and have a a true enjoyment of the learning and teaching process. Over the years, I have worked with several school districts to create and implement 1 to 1 and online learning pilot programs. I love incorporating technology in new and exciting ways into my lessons. Recently, I have lost over 200 pounds, regained my health, and recently relocated to Sunny Las Vegas, Nevada, where I can go for nice walks year round. I currently teach middle school science to students with autism virtually, and love every moment of my time with my students. In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry and watching superhero movies.
B.S. Chemistry UC Irvine | B.S. Biology UC Irvine
Casey Dzuong
My name is Casey and I have over 11 years of tutoring. I love tutoring because I love watching students get the ‘spark,’ the moment when everything just clicks and they say ‘wow!’ I tutor math, biology, and chemistry. For the sciences, I tutor up to the AP levels. I’ve gained so much experience in tutoring over the past few years that I developed my own study hacks to get platinum grades. I even published these in a book called “Study Hacks.” These hacks were game changers for my students; the strategies helped bring them from D+ and F grades to A+ grades. They also helped my A- students reach A+ levels as well. I’m very proud of them. I hope to have the chance to work with you to help you achieve great results too!
In my free time, I love cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

B.A. English University of the Pacific
Christopher Hernandez
Born and bred in Stockton, CA, I have learned that education is imperative to taking steps forward as a productive citizen in society. As a first generation college student, I hold great respect for the hunger that is knowledge. I don’t believe one is either too young nor too old to receive an invaluable education– even though resources and access might say otherwise. I truly believe that the best type of education comes from helping others.
Besides teaching high school English as my day job, I also enjoy tutoring, traveling and playing a little soccer on the side. Good food and great company are also what makes my days brighter. It is a pleasure to be part of the AirTutors family and assist the youth through an incredible and innovative format!
B.S. Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Minor: Math and Environmental Studies) Western Washington University
Alexander Fahad
The world around us is made up of both the natural and human design. From plants, trees, animals, architecture, vehicles, and agriculture; all of which share a common thread, Mathematics. Also known as the study of Quadrivium, Mathematics is a road map to the universe, helping me make sense of this planet and the life that moves through it. My hope is to empower you on this discovery, building upon your foundation in mathematics so that you can chart our galaxy. With over 10 years of combined tutoring and teaching experience I am sure that we can make mathematics fun, relevant and practical to your day to day life. Beyond my studies, I enjoy homesteading, hiking with my dog Sol, and kayaking.
B.S. Environmental Sciences University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill | M.S. Soils and Biogeochemistry UC Davis
Jorge Izquierdo
I have always been a thinker. I was born in Peru and grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, steeped in learning and ideas since childhood. Both of my parents are academics and every night, family dinner was always rich in conversation as we played with and dug into ideas that somebody brought to the table. This love for the Life of the Mind has been a defining force in my life.
At a fundamental level, humans love making connections. Our minds are always looking to make sense of things, and we experience a particular kind of joy when we finally *get it*. What drives me as an educator is the desire to help my students experience these moments. Regardless of the context – science, math, test prep – the underlying phenomenon is the same: the satisfaction that now you know something you didn’t before, and the confidence that you are capable of learning more things.
Every mind is unique, and as a tutor I love getting to know the particularities of a student’s mind so I can help them learn to work with themselves, to embrace the way they are wired and unlock their full potential.
B.A. Political Science Hofstra University | M.A. Secondary Education (Emphasis: Social Studies) Hunter College
David Leboff
I have always been someone up for an adventure, excursion or detour. Those side trips in my life, no matter how big or small, have always brought the best memories. It is no surprise that my path into education was not a direct one, but has been memorable, full of meaning and purpose. I live in a suburb of New York City and the culture surrounding the city inspired me to experience the world. I have been fortunate enough to study in Ireland and teach in China as well as slake my passion for soccer by attending the 2014 World Cup in Brazil! I love learning just as much as teaching and these experiences have supplemented my scholastic education. I am currently an eighth grade humanities teacher in New York City and love it all!
B.A. Biological Sciences University of Southern California
Jennifer Pan
I grew up in San Jose, California, and I graduated from USC with a BA in Biological Sciences and a minor in classical piano. Starting from high school, I pursued activities that were service-oriented, from volunteering at a hospital to performing piano at nursing homes. It was then that I also began tutoring, and realized how rewarding and meaningful it was to play an active role in students’ learning processes. It’s important to me that students reach their “Aha!” moment, and that they recognize they have the ability to have these moments again and again on their own. My future plan is to attend medical school to become a pediatrician.
B.A. Developmental Psychology (Minor: Education) Duke University | M.A. Teaching Relay Graduate School of Education
Abby Artmann
I grew up in Texas surrounded by the beautiful hill country. I was homeschooled and my parents worked to instill a deep love for learning as well as a curiosity for the world around me. While growing up, I was a competitive athlete and took my athletics to the next level when I swam and rowed for Duke University during my undergraduate years. My passion for teaching and coaching in athletics inspired me to begin pursuing education. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I went on to get my M.A. in teaching while also teaching 6th and 7th grade math full time.
I am excited to continue my teaching endeavors through Air Tutors and begin working with individual students to build confidence and develop the same love for learning that was instilled in me!

Kevin Lewis
I grew up and graduated from college on California’s central coast and spend my time hiking, playing basketball, and volunteering in the ER. My mission as a tutor is to build long habits for student success–not just on a particular exam or test, but throughout their academic career! I have several years of tutoring experience ranging from K-8 to university levels courses in science, mathematics, and language arts/English. My tutoring style is rooted in reflexivity and respect for student difficulties. I recognize and understand that each student has unique difficulties and strengths from my experience tutoring across wide age ranges. By placing the student first, my schedule is extremely flexible, and I’m always willing to provide quick assistance or spend long hours preparing students for last-minute assignments or exams. I love helping students achieve their academic goals!

Mary Christensen
For twenty years, I have been working with students one-on-one to help them achieve their goals. Tutoring is a wonderful opportunity to really connect with, listen to, and support a student. From algebra to French grammar, from organic chemistry to English literature, I love exploring topics with my students, growing their interest and their confidence in the subjects we study together. My ideal is to be the teacher my students are most comfortable with— to laugh, to ask me questions or come to me with whatever they need—and also the teacher who pushes them to do their best work. When I am not teaching, I am reading too many books, teaching my cat tricks, and having living room dance parties.
B.A. History Dallas Baptist University | M.A. Biblical Exegesis Wheaton College | M.A. Historical and Systematic Theology Wheaton College

B.S. Kinesiology Arizona State University | M.S. Kinesiology (Emphasis: Biomechanics) East Carolina University
Jeffrey Patterson
I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, but since then I have lived all across the country. I’m currently in New York with my wife. I started off as a Mathematics major at Arizona State University, but I switched to Kinesiology because I could incorporate my interests in math to studying the human body in the field of biomechanics, which is ultimately what I got my Master’s degree in from East Carolina University. My pathway has helped me cultivate a deep understanding of various fields, including mathematics, physics, anatomy/physiology, and advanced critical reading/writing skills. I also have experience with the SAT, ACT, and GRE.
Some of my hobbies/interests include playing video games (I’ve built my own computer, which was really fun!), basketball, running, and spending time with my wife playing board games, doing puzzles, and watching shows and movies.
I’ve always had a passion for teaching and tutoring because I love to help others in whatever way I can, and I’m looking forward to helping many more!
B.A. English Education North Carolina State University | M.A. English Literature North Carolina State University
Taylor Holden
I am a passionate and organized English student with an affinity for teaching. My love of teaching and learning grew from numerous, incredible educators that worked tirelessly to assist their students. I strive to provide the same passion and progress in my teaching encounters. My literature/research focus is on nineteenth century British literature, and I have enjoyed experiences teaching at the high school and college levels. Outside of work I enjoy reading, drinking a good cup of coffee, and spending time with friends and family.
B.A. Physics (Minor: Mathematics) (Minor: Data Science) Clark University
Michael O’Connor
Hello! I grew up in Jupiter, Florida. In high school, I remember convincing myself that some people were just inherently good at math while others were not. I learned, though, that just as with most other skills in life, we can all improve our mathematics ability with effective and patient practice! I have several years of teaching and tutoring experience in both mathematics and physics. I love teaching because I know how it feels to struggle with seemingly indomitable learning obstacles, and I want to help fellow learners recognize that they too can improve their abilities with challenging subjects. My favorite classroom moments are when my students and I work together to solve a difficult problem that had us stumped; just as I help my students learn, they too help me improve further through sharing their perspectives and creative problem-solving ideas! I also have research experience in electronic materials physics, and I am pursuing a career as both a researcher and educator in materials science. Outside of academics, I love practicing piano, hiking in the outdoors, and rock climbing!
B.A. History UC Los Angeles
Shannon Cone
I was born and raised in San Diego, California, and have been involved in education my whole life. My experience of being homeschooled on an organic farm gave me a passion for learning and teaching in more unique ways. After earning my degree at UCLA, I spent time coaching and teaching.
Outside of teaching my passions are about staying active and entertained. I love to read fantasy books, play video games, and take my motorcycle out. I try to learn a little about every topic, which has really helped me relate the topics I am trying to teach to a learner’s personal interests.
B.A. Communication Studies (Minor: Applied Psychology) Oregon Insitute of Technology | M.A. English and Creative Writing Southern New Hampshire University | Ed.D. Higher Education Concordia University
Rebekah Dodson

I have also taught ESL and high school level history, goverment, geography, economics, and reading/writing. My greatest passion is history and I absolutely love Doctor Who, documentaries, and academic research.
B.S. Mechanical Engineering University of Texas | M.S. Computer Science Georgia Tech
Sopeade Lanlehin
I find learning incredibly exciting! There’s so much out there to learn, and so little lifespan, comparatively, for all of it.
I’m passionate about music and play the piano. While i performed publicly a few years ago, now I mostly play for friends and use music as a means of catharsis.
I started tutoring (Physics & Calculus) in College and I’ve been hooked ever since. There’s little that compares to seeing that flash of understanding as a student finally grasps a concept. To help with understanding, and share that love for learning is my goal.
I’m a licensed Realtor in Texas and work with clients responding to their Real Estate needs.
When I’m not playing the piano, tutoring, or studying (for my M.S. degree), I’ll be generating leads for the Real Estate business.
B.S. Biology Point Loma Nazarene University
Michelle Contreras
After graduating with my B.S. in Biology, I spent nearly 4 years in the biotech industry. One of my passions as an undergrad was working with students: helping a subject finally click with a student is the greatest feeling in the world. I am passionate about all things science, and getting my students excited about what they’re learning means that I am doing my job right.
When I’m not tutoring, I’m going for a hike or catching up on movies.
B.S. Interdisciplinary Neurobiology (Minor: Chemistry) (Summa Cum Laude, Honors) University of Florida
Paul Orza
My passion has always been the human brain and its mysteries. I love studying and understanding the behind-the-hood processes that make up our complex and exciting world. I have over six years of experience helping students master content and better understand their own learning potentials through small class instruction and one-on-one tutoring. Even when I’m not teaching, I’m still passing on knowledge as a virtual trivia host. I also love hiking, traveling, and everything fantasy.
B.A. Cognitive Science (Minor: Russian and East European Studies) University of Virginia | M.A. English Linguistics (Summa Cum Laude) George Mason University | Graduate Certificate in Teaching ESL George Mason University
Rachel Darg
I grew up in Northern VA, and I am a linguist and teacher by training. I have tutored children across disciplines, prepared teenagers for college exams, taught English as a second language to adults in my community, and tutored academic writing to undergraduate and graduate students at my university. As a mom, I love helping my child discover language, and as an instructor, I have enjoyed helping my students reach their goals. I have taught students from across the globe, and I enjoy exploring the rich intricacies of the English language, breaking them down into ideas that can be communicated with multilingual students, and helping them to make progress in their language acquisition. I believe my students can succeed in their academic goals given the right support. In my spare time, I spend time with my family and two tiny terriers.
B.A. Classics Indiana University | M.I.A. International Security Policy Columbia University | M.Phil. Greek & Roman History University of Oxford | Ph.D. Ancient History University of Oxford
Max Eager
I’ve spent the majority of my adult life working and living in academe, both here in the States and abroad. I began at Indiana University, where I studied Latin and Greek, and then prosecuted my classical education at Oxford, where I took two research degrees in ancient history. Returning to my native New York, I completed a professional degree at Columbia in the School of International and Public Affairs. During this decade or so, I’ve been exposed to a variety of teaching styles and methodologies that have come to inform my own tutorials and how I teach a given subject. As an historian, I have been trained to appreciate how the granular fits into the wider scheme of things; and it is that interconnection of various topics which makes tutoring so rewarding.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, movies, and cooking.
B.A. Art UC Los Angeles | M.A. Education CSU Los Angeles | Ph.D. Education UC Los Angeles
Lisa Yamasaki
After pursuing a short career in art, I discovered that I enjoyed the process of learning and teaching. While I have degrees in Education, in particular educational foundations and educational philosophy, I am more interested in literature and the writing process. Currently, I like to research 19th to early 20th century Norwegian literature. Throughout the past 13 years, I have worked with students at the PreK level learning to write their names to graduate students working on their doctoral dissertations. I hope to inspire others to think about the ways that their interpretations of literature matter, and the writing process only strengthens their abilities to communicate their perspectives.
When I am not teaching, I like writing, drawing or painting, but I also like more carefree pastimes like watching old British detective shows or videos on historical costume making.
B.A. Chemistry (Minor: Japanese) CSU Fullerton
Lato Nguyen
I grew up in Garden Grove, California, and I have been tutoring since high school. I tutored because I love seeing my students having the “Aha” moment, and I find joy in sharing my knowledge to other people. One of my favorite hobbies that I enjoy is cooking. I have loved cooking ever since I was little, and it has always been a passion of mine to make new desserts and recipes. I spend a lot of time playing the piano and composing new melodies, and I am a big fan of learning new languages and exposing myself to different cultures.
B.A. Kinesiology and Exercise Science University of Hawai'i | B.A. Psychology University of Hawai'i
Asha Prithviraj
I grew up in Chino Hills, California, where I submerged myself in both academics and sports. I was a scholar athlete in high school and was fortunate enough to earn a scholarship for both softball and academics to the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. While in Hawai’i, I made the Dean’s List every semester and earned NCAA All-Conference honors for both academics and athletics. I was also blessed with the opportunity to both coach and mentor young girls in softball, school, and life during my four years there. Since earning my degrees, I moved back to California, had a son, and started teaching English online to children in China in both a one-on-one and group setting while continuing my own education. I also switched sports and now play competitive flag football.
I continue to teach because I have a passion for helping others and making a positive difference in each and every one of my students’ lives. Every student is unique, so I love getting to learn about my students while helping them grow and evolve into the bright young men and women they were meant to be inside the classroom and out. My greatest reward is seeing my students fulfill their dreams and succeed in every aspect of life. Just knowing that I was able to be just a small part of that process is one of the best feelings in the world.
B.A. Psychology UC Santa Cruz | Geosciences Teaching Credential CSU San Bernardino | M.A. Math Education San Diego State University
Michelle Mingo
Hello! I have lived in both Northern and Southern California, ending up in beautiful San Diego. I have had a variety of experiences with both learning and teaching, getting involved in the joy of math and science and how they are very connected. Throughout my life I have taken the lessons I have learned from my own mentors to pass on to my students. I have been teaching math and science for more than 15 years with some time in every grade, K-12. Outside of teaching, I love nature and being outside. I am working on growing my own plants I can eat, and hiking all over San Diego County. I have an Australian Shepherd puppy who has A LOT of energy, and keeps me on my toes.
B.S. Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology University of Tennessee | M.S. Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology University of Tennessee
Rebecca Shrem
I have always been interested in biochemistry, and during my education journey, I realized I had a passion for teaching as well. I love the ability to think creatively that teaching provides, and being able to spark that same excitement I feel about the sciences in the next generation of learners. This is especially true during one-on-one tutoring sessions where I can really focus on that particular student’s goals and interests. I have a strong research background that has benefited greatly from the blending of a traditional hard science program with the freedom to explore and prioritize teaching and learning theory. During my graduate program, I had the opportunity to work on a discipline-based education research project, where I investigated what motivated students to select active learning assignments. This gave me plenty of new insights on how to effectively reach students and helped me tailor the material to the student’s comfort level.
When I’m not teaching humans, I love teaching animals! My horse, Mary, has been my muse, and she gives me the chance to develop and practice my science-based animal training skills.
B.S. Microbiology, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics UC Los Angeles
Jason Eigenbrood
I grew up in South Jersey outside of Philadelphia, an avid Philly sports fan (Go Birds!). I have three brothers, so growing up was filled with constant games and laughter that I still thrive on today. This led me to take on my first job as a teacher at KinderCare in high school, where I would both tutor kids and play various games and activities with them.
Craving warmer weather, I took a leap of faith across the country and attended UCLA for my Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. During my time there I had the pleasure of privately tutoring three students for three years as they progressed through high school, helping them attain their desired grades and get accepted into their dream schools. I pride myself on fostering lasting connections with my students, keeping things light, and tailoring my lessons to their specific learning needs.
Currently I am in the process of applying to PhD programs, where I plan to go into academia and continue my passion for teaching! Hobbies I enjoy most now are anything in the outdoors; I like to boat, wakeboard, scuba dive, surf, golf, and snowboard. When I am not outside I like to watch sports and Netflix, play video games, and of course hang out with friends and family.

I grew up in Southern California my entire life and although I have traveled to many other cities and countries, I still love SoCal. My teaching style is best described as supportive and interactive. Students in my class will always be supported, motivated, and encouraged to try their best, no matter their skill level. I encourage students to ask questions and share their knowledge with me as well as other students. I teach because I love guiding students and sharing what I know in order for them to build their own learning experiences. I teach because helping students make progress, reach their goals, and succeed motivates me to continue to learn and grow as well.
Outside of teaching and tutoring, I love to create, cook, watch movies, and read. I am a big fan of arts and crafts. I enjoy making things and learning how to make things. It is therapeutic for me. I love to cook and try new foods. I love food in general, and cooking new dishes is also fun. Watching movies and reading is another way I enjoy my days off and my time off. It is relaxing and I enjoy being engrossed in something for a short amount of time.

I started working in schools at the suggestion of my mother. My Mom, my sister, and my Wai Gong (grandfather) were, and are, teachers. Being both jobless and a recent college graduate at the time, I figured I would give it a try.
From the very beginning, I found so much joy and purpose in working with students. Although this path has been and will continue to be difficult, my life has been so enriched and inspired by the young people that I have worked with since 2011.
I have worked with students in all grade levels, from K-12. I recently earned my Multiple Teaching Credential, and I am completing my Master’s in Education. This means that I can soon be the lovingly-annoying elementary school teacher that tries to be “hip” with the times, and who also puts gifs in their Google slides presentations.
I am excited to be tutoring math with Air Tutors. Math has been a subject that I have both excelled at and struggled with in different times of my life. Partly for this reason, I am always excited to teach and help people understand tricky or unclear mathematical concepts. I hope to have fun, teach, and further cultivate a love of learning with my students.
In the world of Pablo, I love music and funny/cute videos and gifs. I also spend time with my family, play video games, and practice mindfulness, mindfully 🙂

I have a high regard for education, and that’s what led me into the teaching field. I believe that it’s the foundation for progress in all aspects of society. I had the pleasure of working with a tutor and mentor during my academic career and realized how much it helped in aiding my success. A little attentiveness and dedication works wonders both academically and personally. An added bonus is that I love to teach and I take pride in being able to help someone experience their own “aha” moment when they realize how to solve a problem or that the problem wasn’t as intimidating as he or she thought. I have years of tutoring experience and I hope to be able to be that helper and guide that I once had.
Outside of academics, I love to travel. I’ve been to UK, Netherlands, Nigeria, Austria, Italy, France, Germany, and more. The places I’d love to visit are Thailand, Greece, Barbados, and Tokyo. I also love to write in my spare time. I’ve written three fiction and one non-fiction novel. It’s ironic because I’m a math fiend and yet I have a passion for reading and writing. I look forward to working with people from all walks of life.

Hi! I grew up in Oxnard, California, moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB, then moved back to Oxnard after graduating. I have had a passion for teaching since I was about 5 years old and have been tutoring since I was 16 years old. I also have experience tutoring children and college students on the spectrum. Currently I am working on my TESOL certification in order to teach English as a second language.
Aside from teaching, I enjoy taking walks on the beach with my dog Memo. I also enjoy watching basketball, painting, crocheting, baking, and doing puzzles!

I love experiencing different cultures, which is how I knew that once I entered college, I would find a way to make my dream of setting foot on unfamiliar soil come true. I was blessed to have studied in Budapest, Hungary, for a semester in college. Once I graduated, I knew that the travel bug had bitten me and that I wanted to have more adventures. Thankfully, while studying overseas, I also discovered that my international peers were thirsty for me to tutor them in English. I also discovered that I was happy to do so, as well as enjoyed doing it. After graduating I knew that I wanted to marry my love of travel with my new-found love of teaching; thus, I began my journey of teaching English in various countries in Europe, as well as the Middle East. To continue the journey in the States, I became a licensed ESL teacher where I have been teaching mainly middle and high school students from all over the world (for over 15 years), how to communicate in English with confidence. When I am not a world traveler, I enjoy playing video games, writing, singing, and spending time with my loving husband and our beautiful baby boy.

I grew up in Yosemite, which incited my sense of adventure. Today I continue to hike far to reach a scenic view and don’t mind trudging up a mountain to ski back down it. My love of the outdoors brought me to Colorado, where I pursued a bachelor’s in mathematics at Western State University. I taught math for eight years at a private middle school in San Francisco and recently left to pursue a career in coding.
As a teacher, I adapt to the students’ learning styles while inspiring enthusiasm and interest in the subject. I involve my students in the learning process by encouraging them to ask questions and explore. I am thrilled to share my love of learning with others and my passion for numbers.

Helping people improve their lives and get better at their craft has been my passion since my first year in college. That year, I was part of many tutoring groups and helped many of my fellow classmates improve their grades. From my sophomore to junior year, I worked for many after school programs focused on improving the grades of middle school students.
Recently, I have been part of many educational nonprofit organizations focused on bringing education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Outside of my educational goals, I have a passion for filmmaking. Currently, I am establishing my film portfolio in various studios working towards making my first film.
I consider myself a man of many endeavors in all areas of my life. One day I hope to combine my passion for education and filmmaking together!

I was a three sport collegiate athlete at Alabama State University (Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field) while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. That came with an academic scholarship, earning myself a B.S in Mathematics and then going on to earn my M.F.A in Theatre from California Institute of the Arts. Growing up in Southern California, I had many hobbies during my childhood, most motivated by the enjoyment to sink myself into the details of learning how something functioned and what mechanisms drove its performance. These days, I have been exploring the world of psychological research, and it’s been an adventure thus far! While completing my master’s degree in social psychology, I had the privilege of tutoring college-level math and writing courses. I have experience also working with ELL students and students with learning disabilities. My tutoring philosophy is similar to how some professional basketball players build their success. They work hard to sharpen their craft, need their team, and have someone to cheer them on in the stands because no one walks the path of success alone. When I am not tutoring, I am creating a new dish I learned about online while visiting family, attending psychological research webinars in the ceramics studio, or taking care of our adopted beta fish, Keva.

Honestly, I seriously struggled with math. The ‘crying from frustration’ type of struggle. Chemistry, too. Everything fell into place when these complicated concepts were explained in a way that I could understand. Someone took an interest and cared to meet me where I was at. That one person made all the difference.
My approach with students is to take a topic that feels abstract and complicated, break it down into smaller and more manageable pieces, and then put the whole thing back together in a way that makes sense to the learner. Finding the manageable pieces that are unique to each person is what I believe to be my special and unique talent. I promise to always care and meet you where you are at. Together we can overcome any frustration.
If you are interested in knowing more about me, I enjoy spending time hiking, skiing, kayaking, fly-fishing, or finding solace in the mountains. When not on an outdoor adventure, I can be found curled up with a book or baking dog biscuits for my 2 pups. I look forward to learning more about you!

For the past 7 years I have been an educator in New York City, the last 6 of which I have been teaching science to middle and high school students in Brooklyn and the Bronx. I love to bring real life examples and events into the classroom to try and show connections between the concepts we are learning about and the real world. As we have become an ever more digital society, in particular this year, I have enjoyed the challenge of creating and finding resources that can still create those traditional hands-on experiences in a digital setting.

I see the connections of the classroom and the real world and like to make sure my students are prepared for what’s to come. I’ve tutored/taught for 18 years in all subjects at all levels through High School and have taught College Math. I focus on teaching to how students learn versus making them learn how I teach.
I love music (play over 30 instruments) and enjoy coffee with friends. On any given day you can find me learning something new, like converting a van into a RV, and enjoying time with my 2 year old adopted son.

I have years of professional experience tutoring math (algebra, formal geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus, calculus), physics (both algebra- and calculus-based), English writing (elementary and high school), and SAT/ACT. I think that learning has the potential to be really fun, no matter the topic, and I do my best to keep things both productive and enjoyable!
Beyond tutoring, I’m also interested in music, writing, language learning, juggling — the list goes on. Recently, I’ve been spending a lot of time cooking and reading.

Teaching has been a central part of my identity for as long I can remember. I have always been passionate about science and music, learning and sharing my knowledge with friends, classmates, students and family members. After graduating from Lawrence University with a degree in Trombone Performance, I moved to New York City to pursue my career as a musician, completing my Master’s degree in Jazz Performance at Queens College. While gigging and studying, I tutored math, English, and taught middle and high school band classes. During this time I also performed with my own group and recorded an album of my original compositions.
Shortly after, I became a fellow with New York City Teaching Fellows where I completed a Masters in Special Education at St. Johns University. For five years, I thoroughly enjoyed teaching Special Education math and science in the Bronx, helping students develop as learners and young adults. In 2018, I set out on a 14 month bike tour of South America, riding from Ecuador to Peru and Colombia. Along the way I became fluent in Spanish, made wonderful friends, pushed my mental and physical strength, and kept my passion for education alive by visiting local schools as a guest musician/artist/English teacher. Post-pandemic I am enjoying life in Santa Barbara where I teach private trombone lessons and tutor math and science for Air Tutors.

I challenge myself to look at problems from as many points of view as possible. I try to apply this approach to everything I do, including when I teach others — if we try a method and it doesn’t work for you, we will work together and find what does!
Combining user-centered design with my engineering background helps me break down complex ideas into easy-to-digest portions and tailor my teaching style to the person I’m tutoring. My love of learning new things helps me become a better teacher — after all, the best way to know you understand a topic is to clearly teach it! I know from experience that STEM subjects can be hard to grasp, and I’ve learned that a solid foundation of knowledge is the key to broader understanding. Once you are confident with basic concepts, it becomes much easier to apply and build up your skills.
I have experience in tutoring academically rigorous concepts and helping students establish useful life skills. In college, I helped my peers manage non-content related skills (i.e. organization and time management), so they could stay focused on the subject matter in class. I have tutored students from elementary through high school in math and english. I believe that with the right support, anyone can unlock a love for learning.
In my free time, I’m usually experimenting in the kitchen (I love baking!), reading a good book, or watching something funny on TV.

Hello! My name is Yair Ben-Zvi and I was born in Jerusalem before moving to Los Angeles with my family thousands of years ago (the 1990s) and took to reading and writing very early. Throughout middle and high school I just had to tell stories, be they regular narratives, comic books, even the random video. I received my English BA from UCLA while also acting as Assistant Editor for UCLA’s Literary Journal “Westwind,” so clearly the story bug hasn’t quite left me. Following a brief stay in Israel, I returned and took my MA from CSUN in English because, honestly, a life without literature, to me, is not a life. But just so no one thinks I read to the point of blindness, I’m also not averse to video games, movies, and the occasional binge-worthy show (usually comedy).

I grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I began teaching high school English in the California Bay Area, where I became interested in TESOL. After raising my kids near family in Wisconsin, I resumed teaching, and earned a TEFL certificate. I enjoyed teaching ESL so much that I decided to earn a master’s in TESOL. That work led me down to Florida where I was academic director and teacher at a language institute. Since then, I’ve been teaching online and writing curriculum remotely. My goal is to help students set and achieve their mathematics goals. In addition to answering specific homework questions, I have a lot of experience designing lessons that cover a variety of topics. I also help students learn about a growth mindset and how it will help them work up to their potential. Importantly, I teach students how to learn from their mistakes and how mistakes are actually really good! I am excited about math, excited about science, and excited about problem-solving!! I also have at least two or three distinct ways of explaining almost any concept.

I am a California-native, educator, environmentalist, and project manager. I have spent the last 18 years working with groups of people from elementary to high school to adult learners, encouraging a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect. I have worked internationally to develop my ability to expand global/cultural awareness and equip youth with the necessary skills for global success. I dedicated four years to service in Belize, developing educational systems for youth and creating economic opportunities for women. Since my return to the United States, I have been working to break the cycle of illiteracy, poverty and low expectations by helping families in low-income communities of New York rise above poverty through education and career programs. As an individual with a keen love for math and for education as a whole, I develop and implement tutoring plans that best fit each individual student’s academic needs. I know just how to make subjects interesting, particularly math, by using contemporary resources and materials that will keep students’ interest piqued at all times. I can exhibit patience and judgment especially where the need for both is dire. Additionally, I possess a positive attitude and a passion for assisting struggling learners.

I was raised in a small town in west Texas named Fabens, which lies just outside the city of El Paso. Upon graduating from high school, I immediately enlisted into the United States Air Force, where I served for a little over 8 years, at which point I was separated for medical reasons. It was then that I enrolled into Texas State University and began my studies with the ultimate goal of becoming a mathematics professor at the collegiate level. I received my B.S. in Mathematics in 2018, and immediately applied and was accepted into the Mathematics Graduate Program at Texas State University. I was also accepted for an Instructional Assistantship and got the opportunity to teach at the university for the 2018 Fall semester. However, due to ongoing medical issues I had to pause my studies, but continued tutoring and assisting students with mathematics wherever I could.
During my spare time, I like to cook, listen to music, exercise, watch sports, and work on home remodeling projects. Most importantly, I am super excited and anxious as my wife an I are expecting our first baby!

B.S. Education (Emphasis: Integrated Mathematics) Kent State University
Brandon Evans
Mathematics is the teaching of perseverance to turn dreams into realities. My journey into the education field began with tutoring at the University level at Kent State University, which also included projects for the Mathematical Sciences and Education department offices (2012-2014). After graduating from Kent State University, I taught for Akron Public Schools at the Akron Alternative Academy, North High School, and Akron Juvenile Detention Center (2014-2016). In conjunction to this assignment, I started an evening server assignment for my local country club that has been utilized as a way to make one of my largest personal travel goals of visiting French Polynesia a reality in 2017 and I am still active in this role with four years of service. The time period of 2016 through the present has been a time of great growth and great fulfillment. At that time I had accepted an opportunity to work in a school that has grown my perception of teaching into a more arts-infused approach to appeal to the numerous learning styles, and this is where I have used my creative nature to develop a themed algebra video series and several scenario projects. I tested the waters with online tutoring in February of 2018. At that time, little did I know that I would have nearly 500 sessions completed to this present day and I am truly amazed at the impact that online tutoring can have. It is an honor to be a part of the Air Tutors team and I look forward to working with students in helping them to persevere in making their dreams their realities.

PHD (BIOCHEMISTRY) DANYLO HALYTSKY LVIV NATIONAL MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, UKRAINE MS (BIOLOGY) IVAN FRANKO LVIV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, UKRAINE
Nataliya Pidkovka
I have a long-standing track record as a life scientist and a passionate teacher/educator. After receiving my Ph.D. in biochemistry from Ukraine, I moved to the United States to complete my postdoctoral training in cardiovascular sciences at the University of Virginia. As a Research Instructor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University, I continued my research to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases. In addition to my scientific and educational activities that included mentoring and training medical students and research fellows at Lviv National Medical University (Ukraine), University of Virginia, and Vanderbilt University, I have been teaching general biology, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology courses at Columbia State Community College and South College, TN.
I strongly believe that every person is a natural learner and every child is an inborn scientist. My personal experiences have led me to believe that the central purpose of education is to inspire students and to prepare them for future endeavors. A teacher must devise strategies to share knowledge and help students to meet their specific needs. I nurture and develop the potential of my students by challenging them through critical thinking approach and a hands-on application of the scientific method.

Esra Flora
Coming from where all the languages and ancient cultures blossomed, it was not hard for me to fall in love with all the languages around. Born in Izmir, Turkey, I grew up watching people interacting with at least five languages during the day and my question was; why not learn them? My passion for learning new cultures and using languages as a tool to make this connection changed my life. I believe that every individual has their own way of exploring, some travel, some study, for my case I can say that I choose both! I studied German, English, and my native language Turkish to see the world in locals’ eyes and discover their culture as it is my own. I also took Italian, French, and Greek classes to have a better understanding of art, music, and philosophy. Teaching what I know is not just tutoring for me, it also helps me share my knowledge as much as possible and, show people new worlds.

I grew up in SC and ended up at the University of Tennessee to study Deaf education. The majority of my adult life has been spent actively involved in the Deaf community, both in the US and abroad. In fact, I’ve spent eight of the last ten years with my family living and working in the Deaf community in Vietnam. As a Deaf educator, I taught high school students for several years in Tennessee. Additionally, I’ve worked as a free-lance American Sign Language interpreter and as an ASL teacher. One of the things I’m most passionate about is seeing Deaf people have access to sign language, as well as seeing the gap bridged between the Deaf and hearing worlds. My wife and I co-founded a non-profit called Hands for Vietnam, which provides Vietnamese Sign Language training and education for Deaf children and adults in central Vietnam. In 2014, we opened a school for Deaf children, the majority of whom had never been to school before. To get to witness the whole world open up for a Deaf child when he/she is finally given access to sign language is a privilege I never take for granted!

I’m originally from Dallas (and Houston), Texas, and now live in Los Angeles. I’ve had a deep love for reading and writing stories since I was young, and one of the greatest joys I’ve found in life is the freedom that comes with being creative. Growing up, I’ve felt most inspired by teachers who connected the dots, brought discussions of the real world into the classroom, and matched their love for the material with the care they had for their students. I’ve tried to pay this forward as a reading teacher with YES Prep Southwest in Houston, a tutor here in Los Angeles, and a volunteer with PAIR Houston, the Breakthrough Collaborative, and 826LA. I enjoy adapting to the unique ways that students learn, and my goal is to connect the dots however I can!

I believe that teaching is an opportunity to bestow upon others the invaluable lessons I’ve learned, which have helped mold me into who I am today. During my time at Cal, I volunteered as a mentor at a nearby elementary school where I helped underrepresented students with their math and reading homework (when we weren’t playing lava monster tag or soccer). I loved this experience as it taught me patience and constantly reminded me to be empathetic as every student is unique and comes from a different academic and socioeconomic background. I’ve been blessed to attend great schools with caring teachers that have left an impact on my life, and I strive to pass on the wealth of valuable lessons I’ve learned.

Education has been a staple in my life as a scholar and educator. School was an escape for me, a place where all were welcomed and had the ability to be educated and learn about oneself. It has allowed me to create experiences, travel, and continue learning everyday. As an educator I strive to help students love and learn the benefits of mathematics. Making math come to life, engaging and related to the real world is always my goal. One on one tutoring and small group tutoring in any subject have so many benefits to enhance a child’s learning experience. Every student has the ability to learn and master skills and to love to learn.

I have always been passionate about science which led me to pursue a career in medicine. I found that learning tougher material became easier once I was able to explain it to others. This led me to become a tutor so I could help others find more efficient techniques to understand challenging subjects. Throughout my undergraduate career, I tutored various subjects in science and math from Genetics to Calculus. Upon graduating, I was a tutor for the SATs. As a tutor, my goal is to present the material in a manner where tough concepts can be explored and appreciated. When the material becomes enjoyable, the subject can be truly understood. By creating an interactive environment, I am able to help my students evolve in their knowledge by piquing their curiosity.

Growing up as a Navy child, moving frequently, I was always starting behind other children in school. I had wonderful teachers who helped me to succeed, and without them I would not have made it where I am today. Through my over 20 years of tutoring I have enjoyed being that person for other students, helping them find the confidence in themselves to succeed in school and their lives. I am passionate about learning and education in the classroom and beyond. I guided my three children through school as we moved around the world and I learned the benefit of adaptability. When teaching and tutoring I want to find the best way to communicate with each specific student. Every student is different and deserves that one-on-one attention to ensure that the material makes sense to them.
In addition to mathematics and science I love to craft and sew. I find sewing is a place to apply my love of Geometry.

I spent the last 15 years teaching high school math in Austin, Texas. I have taught several hundred students of all different levels, from those struggling to pass Algebra 1 for the third time to International Baccalaureate students that breeze through AP Calculus. I enjoyed my job, but I always wished there was a way that I could just teach and not deal with the rest of the noise that comes with large class sizes, administrative duties, curriculum changes, etc. Tutoring allows me to focus on what I love about teaching–the one-on-one relationships and the math. I enjoy the challenge of adapting to each student’s unique learning style, and I try to approach every situation with a sense of humor and a slice of cake.

Hailing from Boston, I’ve been passionate about education from a young age. I grew up reading constantly (Harry Potter is still one of my favorites), playing soccer, singing, and playing piano. In college, I got the chance to teach a leadership course during my freshman year, which catapulted me towards teaching. After graduating from Rice University, I taught high school theatre and yoga at YES Prep North Central in Houston, TX. It was an incredible experience because I was around driven and thoughtful educators every day. This inspired me to tutor when I moved to LA. Apart from tutoring, I’m a jazz vocalist and recording artist. I write music every day and perform to keep my creativity alive. I also enjoy UX/UI design development and graphic design.

During my time at UC San Diego, I served as a Student Success Mentor — an experience that made me fell in love with working with students. In my work, I guided students with academic advising, resume building, and career coaching. Nothing makes me happier than my mentees emailing me about the new job/internship they landed, or the dream school they got into! From there on, I set my eyes on helping students achieve their highest potential in an academic setting. I served as a teaching assistant in a variety of biology classes, spanning from general biology to genetics. I led weekly discussion with ~20 students, hosted one-on-one office hours, and also proctored and graded exams. My mentoring experience has become one of my most treasured memories from my undergraduate years. Upon graduation, I knew I wanted to continue helping students. Therefore, I’m so happy to find my place at AirTutors! I’m currently in LA, and I’m always on the lookout for the next hipster coffee shop that I can add to my list of study spots.

After graduating college, I worked as an optical systems engineer in the defense industry for four years. I realized that wasn’t for me and took some time to travel and explore. I backpacked internationally for a year including four months in India where I got certified to teach yoga. I now teach yoga and meditation in LA which has been a passion of mine for years! I’ve also been tutoring since high school because I felt the frustration of students, and I found I was able to make seemingly daunting concepts accessible. When I’m not teaching, I am tearing it up on my drums or hiking into the wild.
B.S. CHEMISTRY (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) Stony Brook University | Ph.D. Physics City University of New York

As a child in Queens, New York, I first discovered my love of science while throwing eggs, liquids and other items out of my elementary school’s window and watching the velocity at which they fell. I honed this interest through my high school career at Brooklyn Tech and moved on to study Chemistry at Stony Brook University. Only after I graduated did I realize my true passion: Physics. I began doing electromagnetism research at the City University of New York, and a few years later completed my PhD in Theoretical Physics. I’ve since been working as a researcher, professor, and tutor in New York City. Because of my extensive background in all things science and math, I consider myself a generalist and enjoy helping students of all backgrounds. In addition to my love of science, I am a guitarist and an avid runner. I also enjoy lots of international travel with my wife Danielle.

I grew up on a farm in Virginia. I loved everything about it, especially the horses. I went on to discover a passion for the game of basketball. I ended up at Virginia Tech on a full basketball scholarship. Everyone always said I would end up being a teacher and a coach. And that is exactly what I did. I have always wanted to help people. Having been a part of many championships, I learned a lot…about winning, and losing, but mostly about perseverance and that your attitude is much more important than your ability. I have emerged into someone who believes in people, no matter what their setbacks have been, what their limitations may be, or how bad their previous experiences have been. There is a light, some people just need a little more help finding it. The way to success is different for everyone. I thrive on trying to help students find their own way.

I’ve lived in a large number of American cities (Chicago, Madison, Cleveland, Dallas, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Jose) – and last year I moved to Philadelphia where I entered a PhD program in computer science at Drexel University researching gamification in STEM education. While I’m learning a lot about programming (mostly Java, Python, and Haskell), I’m still a math teacher at heart and have scored the AP Calculus exam for the last eight summers. When I’m not coding, I enjoy animals and gaming (RPGs, TCGS, and Euros) in my spare time.

Tawal Panyacosit
I have almost 20 years of tutoring and classroom experience. Through middle school and high school, I was a summer camp counselor and after-school tutor. At Brown, I ran an after-school tutoring program, while also working as a Teaching Assistant for French Studies. Even in graduate school at Columbia, I was a Teaching Assistant in Statistics. But it’s not only that education runs in my blood or that I’m experienced, it’s that I also really enjoy the opportunity to work one-on-one or in small groups with students, really getting to know them, helping them identify their strengths so we can build upon them, while also working to shore up our weaknesses so they become well-rounded and confident individuals. When I’m not tutoring, I’m working on my dreams of becoming a professional TV writer.

Samantha Alfonso
Growing up, I always knew that my future would be in education. After graduating, I followed my passion and started my career in Education. After 9 years of teaching, my daily goal remains to see students’ “lightbulbs” go on and finding their love for mathematics like my own. Aside from teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, working out and eating.

I began teaching my little sisters the alphabet at the age of four and never stopped teaching. With 15 years of teaching experience in higher education, it is my greatest joy to help students cultivate a love of reading and writing by discovering their unique approach to learning. I encourage students to cultivate personal curiosity and establish a learning style that fits their individual needs. In short, I teach way outside of the box and meet my students where they are.
B.A. Government Harvard University

Although I majored in Government, I also enjoyed studying history, ecology, and Portuguese. Throughout my time in college, I also worked as a journalist and organized human rights workshops in Central America. Currently, I am very excited to be working with the Air Tutors team to assist talented students with their academic endeavors.

I am from Da Nang, a beautiful coastal city in Vietnam. Since graduating from university, I have been working at a Deaf education center. Through becoming involved in the Deaf community, I have learned Vietnamese Sign Language, and I am now able to communicate comfortably with Deaf people. Besides having enthusiasm for social work, I am also passionate about helping students build their confidence. As a tutor, I am excited about getting to know more students from different backgrounds and about instructing them so they can overcome their difficulties and feel successful. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, listening to music, and dancing.
